Find me on:

Whether your forum is based in the European Union (EU) or elsewhere, chances are that you are already aware of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).  As the GDPR approaches in late May, here's a preview of what to expect from Threadloom.

What is the GDPR?

The GDPR is an EU privacy law that regulates the treatment and use of personal data of EU citizens.  It goes into effect on May 25, 2018.

Does the GDPR apply to my forum?

Any forum that collects and processes the personal data of EU citizens, regardless of where the forum is based, is likely affected by the GDPR.

What is Threadloom doing to prepare?

The team here has been reviewing and updating our internal data processes and systems as GDPR approaches.  We plan to release an updated version of our Terms of Service to allow our customers to lawfully transfer EU personal data to Threadloom once the GDPR goes into effect.

In addition, we're adding tools to make it easier for your forum to comply with the GDPR.  For instance, this week, we'll be adding an option to Threadloom Newsletter to filter out recipients by country, including regions like the EU.

Finally, we are excited about our next product, List Builder.  List Builder is an automated opt-in email tool that integrates seamlessly with Threadloom Newsletter, and will be fully compliant with the GDPR when it launches.

We'll post another update in early May.

How can I prepare my forum for the GDPR?

We know it can be a lot of work for your forum to get ready for the GDPR.  We've collected several resources here that you may find useful:
