Announcing the Primary plug-in for XenForo 1.5.x

Chris Dildy · Jul 19, 2021

Last month, we announced the Primary plug-in for XenForo 2.  Primary helps admins increase their affiliate revenue by showcasing products members are discussing.  With the plug-in, admins can easily add product widgets and lists to their site with just a few clicks.

Today, I’m happy to announce that the XenForo 1 version of the Primary plug-in is available.  Admins can download the plug-in at The Admin Zone or XenForo Community.

As with the XenForo 2 plug-in, the plug-in is free, and admins can use their own affiliate IDs and keep 100% of revenue generated from the embeds.

To learn more about Primary or to get started, click here, or feel free to drop us a line.

Forums were the first social network I was exposed to. I could connect with knowledgeable people across the globe. I eventually started building my own communities in areas that were interesting to me. After 16 years of sales and acquisition, I was responsible for over 100 active communities. The most challenging task of managing a community is to see it grow through curation of content. This is why I am thrilled to work as a part of the Threadloom team, to help admins in different verticals bring their best content to the forefront of the Internet.

Introducing Primary Login – secure, passwordless login for forums

Chris Dildy · Aug 5, 2020

Earlier this summer, Paul shared the results from our first two Product Stories experiments.  We’ll have more to share from follow-up experiments soon, but today, we wanted to share a new feature with you – secure, passwordless login for forums.

Login help requests make up 20% of Threadloom Newsletter replies.  Many of these requests come from users who want to reply to a post in the newsletter, but are having trouble logging in or resetting their password.  We believed that if we could bridge this gap, we could address a pain point for admins and users, and drive more engagement with Newsletter.

Using technology from Google Cloud and Auth0, a trusted authentication provider, we created a secure, passwordless login option designed to make it easier for forum users to stay logged in.  The feature is called Primary Login, and you can see it live on The Admin Zone.

  • Primary Login on The Admin Zone on desktop
  • Primary Login on The Admin Zone on mobile

Primary Login enables users to transition seamlessly from Newsletter to your forum so they can participate in conversations without struggling with a login form.  When a user clicks on the Primary Login button, they’re prompted to enter their email address, where we send them a confirmation email.  Once the user clicks on the confirmation link in the email, they’re logged in to the forum.  That’s it – no fumbling through password managers or trying to remember forgotten passwords.

In addition, users who don’t already have a forum account can register for a new forum account, with their email address pre-filled in, and without needing to generate a password.  Every new forum account is created in the forum database and controlled by the forum admin.  We invite you to take it for a test spin on The Admin Zone.

Primary Login is currently in beta.  We’re measuring the impact of Primary Login on post activity and reactivating lapsed forum users.  Stay tuned for an update on this soon.  We’re also developing assets to make Primary Login easier for forum users to identify.  In the meantime, if you have questions or are curious if this might work for your forum, feel free to drop me a line at chris at threadloom dot com.

Threadloom Newsletter now includes 25,000 free emails per month

Chris Dildy · Mar 20, 2019

When we first designed Threadloom Newsletter, our strongest supporters were our early Search customers.  Email newsletters were one of their most important traffic drivers. However, they were frustrated with having to piece together tools and data.  Their feedback helped us build the first end-to-end email newsletter service for forums. Combined with our algorithms, Threadloom Newsletter drove 50-90% higher click rates than traditional email newsletters.

Over the next year, more than 1,000 forums joined those early supporters as Newsletter customers; including Internet Brands and VerticalScope.  However, we recognize that not all forums generate revenue. Which is why I’m pleased to announce our first free plan for Threadloom Newsletter.  Effective this week, all customers get 25,000 emails per month for free. Every 1,000 emails above that cost just 20 cents.

Chris Dildy · Jan 7, 2019

I’m happy to share that we’ve updated Threadloom for XenForo 2.1.

XenForo 2.1 is a big upgrade for XenForo admins – including reactions, installing add-on archives, and more – and we’re excited to support the platform.

As with our other plug-ins (for XenForo 1.5 and 2.0, and vBulletin 3 and 4), our XenForo 2.1 plug-in delivers all of the features of Threadloom Search, Newsletter, and List Builder, from the convenience of a single plug-in.  Use just one, or all three of our products – it’s your choice.

For more details on how to upgrade, please see this Help Center article.
